Ethernet First Mile

EFM2 & EFM4

Ethernet First Mile (EFM)

Ethernet First Mile (EFM) is a copper-based Ethernet circuit that bridges the gap between broadband and fully-blown end-to-end fibre circuits. It is ideal for businesses that have outgrown their broadband connections. Two variants are available, EFM2 & EFM4.

Because EFM is copper-based, it’s performance is distance dependent. The table below represents the symmetrical speeds obtainable based on your distance from the local exchange.

[table id=1 /]

Speed Guarantee

You receive a guaranteed speed from your local exchange.

Uncontended

No broadband contention ratios. The 1:1 bandwidth is all yours.

Symmetrical

The speed is the same in both directions so the upload speed is the same as the download speed.

Redundancy

Built on multiple copper pairs so if 1 pair fails, you’re still in business.

SLA

Business Grade service levels see faults resolved within 6hrs.

Low Cost

Bridges the gap between broadband and traditional leased lines.

No Fair Usage Policy

No bandwidth throttling or billing for excessive usage. Threshold does not exist.

Uses

Can be used for public internet and private site-to-site connections for voice and data applications.

EFM is not available if you are beyond 3.9km from your local exchange. Consider an EoFTTC if you are a long way from your Exchange.
