Witness Call Recording- Active Directory Synchronisation

Overview

Witness, the Call Recording module within the Liberty Communications platform, can be configured to synchronise with Active Directory for simplified management.

The integration is enabled by mapping Groups in Witness directly with Active Directory Security Groups. Once set-up, Witness can be centrally managed through Active Directory eliminating the need to manually configure anything inside Witness.

AD User Attributes

To successfully synchronise call records, specific user-attributes must be populated in Active Directory.

Witness uses three standard Active Directory fields (iPhone, Home Phone & Pager) to identify devices.

Important

It is imperative that these AD user-attributes are populated accurately. Incorrect entries will result in recordings being associated with the wrong user.

Group Structure

The hierarchical structure of Witness dictates permissions in a very logical format. Users in a low tier can access their own call recordings. Those in higher tiers can access their own recordings as well as those in the tiers below.

Active Directory Security Groups should conform to the Witness Group hierarchy with 1 to 1 mappings as illustrated.

Ongoing Management

Once AD and Witness Group synchronisation is configured, ongoing management can be performed solely via Active Directory.

  • Add users → Add them to the relevant AD Security group
  • Remove users → Remove them from the Security AD group
  • Change roles → Move users between AD Security groups

Best Practices

  • Ensure Active Directory is clean and all user-attributes, specifically Name, ipPhone, Home Phone & Pager, conform to the pre-requisites outlined.
  • Plan Group names before creating them. Avoid re‑using existing AD Groups. Create new Groups solely for the purpose of Witness.
  • Name AD Groups logically and consistently for easy identification by your AD Administrators.
  • Review Group membership regularly, especially those in higher tiers.
