Environemental Policy

Policy Statement
Mother Technologies recognises its responsibility as a MSP to minimise environmental impacts arising from its operations. We are committed to integrating sustainability practices into the business while maintaining the high standard of customer service we pride ourselves in. The following policy outlines the following initiatives to reduce our environmental impact:

  • Regulatory Compliance
  • Energy Efficiency and resource Management
  • Sustainable Travel
  • E-Waste and Sustainable Procurement
  • Continuous Improvement

1.Regulatory Compliance

Mother is committed to following all environmental laws and regulations that apply to our business. This includes rules set by local, national, and international authorities. We regularly review these requirements to make sure our operations meet them, showing our dedication to protecting the environment.

2.Energy Efficiency and Resource Management

Our offices operate within modern, serviced buildings equipped with energy-efficient lighting and heating systems, managed by our landlords. To further reduce energy usage, all lighting in public areas is motion-controlled to prevent unnecessary consumption.

  • Lighting Upgrades: Office lighting has been upgraded to LED fixtures, which are significantly more energy-efficient and longer-lasting than traditional bulbs.
  • Device & Equipment Usage: Non-essential devices and equipment are powered down outside of business hours and whenever they are not in use. Staff are encouraged to reduce energy consumption wherever possible, and a reminder of this commitment is included in all email signatures.
  • Paper Reduction: We are working towards a 100% electronic document management system (DMS), reducing our reliance on paper and promoting more sustainable ways of working. Printing is kept to a minimum, and digital formats are prioritised for communication and record-keeping. For example, we use digital signature platforms such as DocuSign to securely sign and approve documents electronically. This eliminates the need for printing, mailing, and storing paper-based agreements, significantly reducing paper waste and the carbon footprint associated with traditional document handling.

Our datacentres hold ISO 14001 certification, reflecting our commitment to environmental best practices.

3.Sustainable Travel

We acknowledge the environmental impacts associated with business travel and take active steps to minimise them. Efficient route planning is standard practice to reduce fuel consumption and emissions.

Remote support, monitoring, and video conferencing tools are employed extensively to reduce the need for travel without compromising our service levels.

While we replaced diesel vehicles in 2022 to reduce emissions, we recognise operational constraints that currently limit the use of electric vehicles due to our role as an emergency response provider. We are committed to looking into cleaner transport options as technology improves and becomes more practical for our operations.

4.E-Waste and Sustainable Procurement

Mother Technologies is committed to reducing e-waste by repairing, refurbishing, and reusing technology from both our own operations and our customers where applicable.

In partnership with an award-winning environmental social enterprise, we help extend the life of devices—20% of which are gifted to individuals and families facing digital exclusion, while the remainder are sold affordably to support community projects. In 2023 alone, our partner diverted over 45 tonnes of technology from landfill. Additionally, we work exclusively with certified disposal and recycling providers that comply with the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive.

Furthermore, we supply customers with high-quality hardware designed to extend product life cycles, thereby reducing frequent replacements and associated environmental impacts. We also choose suppliers who have good environmental practices and offer energy-efficient products whenever possible.

In selecting cloud service providers, we prioritise those with strong environmental commitments, such as Microsoft, which is actively working towards becoming carbon negative by removing more carbon than it emits.

5.Continuous Procurement

Environmental responsibility is an ongoing commitment. Mother Technologies undertakes annual reviews of its environmental policies and practices to identify opportunities for improvement. These reviews consider changes in legislation, advances in sustainable technology, and feedback from staff, clients, and partners.

Conclusion

Through these commitments and continuous efforts, Mother aims to balance operational excellence with environmental responsibility, recognising that sustainable business practices are essential for long-term success.
