Liberty Communication Platform - Create a New UnifyPhone Extension

WARNING

Administering a PBX without appropriate telecoms knowledge and training could break the system. Do not attempt to configure your PBX unless you know exactly what you are doing!

The PBX at the heart of the Liberty Communications Platform is a Mitel Openscape Business. This configuration guide is with respect to that system.

Create a New UnifyPhone Extension

1. Purpose and Scope

This procedure describes how to create a new Unify Phone user/extension in OpenScape Business and apply the minimum settings required for successful registration and correct outbound caller ID (CLIP).

2. Prerequisites

  • Admin access to the OpenScape Business web interface (WBM) with Administrator credentials.
  • PBX management address: https://<PBX-IP>
  • User provisioning details: Call Number (extension), DDI (if used), display name, and user email address (for the welcome email).
  • Licensing: at least one available Unify Phone User licence.
  • Outbound CLI/CLIP requirement: the correct outbound number to present (e.g., site main number or the user’s DDI) per customer standard.

3. Procedure

3.1 Check system licensing (always first)

  1. In OpenScape Business, go to: License Management → License Status.
  2. Confirm Unify Phone User Licenses are available.
  3. If no licence is available, stop here and arrange licensing first (otherwise the extension will not register).

3.2 Log into the PBX

  1. Open a browser and go to: https://<PBX-IP>
  2. Sign in using Administrator credentials.

3.3 Create the Unify Phone extension (Unify Phone User Instance)

Navigate to: Setup →  Cloud Services →  Unify Phone User Instance

  1. Choose Create
  2. Enter the required fields:
    • Unify Phone Call Number: extension / DDI
    • Name: user display name
    • Email: user email address
  3. Click Save.
  4. Confirm the user receives the welcome email to set up their password.

3.4 Set CLIP (Caller Line Identification Presentation)

  1. Navigate to: Expert Mode Station Trusted External User.
  2. Locate the newly created user.
  3. Click the blue arrow to open the user/station settings.
  4. Set the outbound caller ID value:
    • CLIP Outgoing CLIP Number: e.g., 01224XXXXXX
  5. Save/apply the change.

4. Validation / completion checks

  • Licence confirmed available prior to creation (Unify Phone User licence).
  • User record exists under Setup Cloud Services Unify Phone User Instance.
  • Welcome email received by the user and password set successfully.
  • Extension registers/comes into service as expected (per customer monitoring/handset/app sign-in method).
  • Outbound caller ID displays the expected number (CLIP Outgoing CLIP Number set correctly).

5. Troubleshooting

  • Extension will not register: re-check License Management → License Status and confirm a Unify Phone User licence is available/assigned. If no licence is available, the extension will not register.
  • User did not receive welcome email: confirm the email address entered on the user instance is correct; check junk/quarantine; resend/recreate if required per local process.
  • Wrong outbound CLI: confirm CLIP Outgoing CLIP Number is set under Expert Mode / Station / Trusted External User and matches the required outbound number.
